Glendale braves storms to keep South West going

After experiencing the worst winter storms in a generation, the South West is now getting back to normal, thanks in part to the efforts of experts from Glendale.

Operating throughout the South West, from Penzance to Marlborough, teams from the company were on standby to deal with a range of issues arising from the 70mph winds, huge tidal surges and torrential rain.

At the height of the storms in Devon and Cornwall, Glendale had 10 teams working for Plymouth City Council, Devon County Council and Western Power Distribution, prioritising emergencies that endangered people or property.

The teams working alongside Western Power found themselves dealing with trees that had fallen onto power lines, clearing the sites before they were handed back to network staff who then started repairs on the damage caused.

In North Somerset, Glendale worked alongside the council to carry out its flood defence plan, assisting with road closures and crowd control to ensure public safety, and reacting to any issues that arose.

Once the water levels subsided, the teams worked tirelessly to clean up the aftermath, completing it in just a few hours, with minimal disruption.

Terry Doyle, regional director for Glendale South West said: “We began our planning for potential bad weather back in the summer, and when the storms arrived over the Christmas period we made sure that all our teams were fully prepared and able to respond quickly.

“Our teams worked extremely hard in the tough conditions and carried out their duties professionally and in a timely manner to ensure that all the areas they worked in were made safe.  They then returned once the weather conditions improved to complete the full clean up.”
