Did you know? Different parts of a tree will grow at different times throughout the year. Most foliage growth occurs in spring whereas trunk growth will follow in summer and root growth through the autumn and winter months. This makes the end of the year perfect for tree planting projects.

Advice from the experts

Over 50 years’ experience in the field, we have developed a keen understanding of which species can provide selected benefits for your business. It is important to consider which benefits you wish to receive from your trees, whether that is reduced heating costs by sheltering your commercial property from the wind, improved shade keeping your employees or livestock cool in the simmer, flood protection or simple aesthetic value.

What size do you need? Generally speaking, the greater the girth (i.e. the circumference of the stem) the greater the spread of the crown. As trees grow, the branch structure grows too as each year more leaves become shoots, shoots become twigs and twigs become branches. This means that, as well as being taller, a tree with a 30-35cm girth will have a more developed and denser crown that a tree with an 18-20cm girth.

We will happily advise you on the most appropriate tree species as well as possible planting locations and aftersales care. Our experts are pleased to instruct each customer on how to best protect their investment for years to come.

Tree planting

We are experienced in planting trees of various species, from selecting the ideal planting locations to breaking ground and placing the plants in situ. Our team will use the most appropriate equipment to excavate, manoeuvre the tree and complete the job. This can range from manual digging to excavating machinery. For very large specimens, we may also use cranes to lift them into position.

Glendale’s experts are sensitive to your business operations and the condition of surrounding areas. We will endeavour to complete any planting work swiftly, with minimal disruption and leaving as little mess as possible.

Rootballed specimens

Rootballed specimens are grown in the field until they are mature enough for transplantation. This cost-effective method of growing ensures that the roots and soil surrounding the tree are kept intact, boosting the chances of successful transfer.

We can source a wide range of species grown and delivered using the rootballing method. To ensure each tree reaches its destination in the best possible condition, we encase its roots and surrounding soil with biodegradable hessian before reinforcing the bundle using a wire basket.

Containerised specimens

In the containerised method of growing trees, each specimen is grown within a container and then removed just before planting. This method allows trees to be available for planting throughout the year.

For added flexibility, we offer various delivery options for all the trees we supply. Glendale offers on-site delivery throughout the UK, for either full orders or part orders if this is more convenient. We will also happily hold your trees for collection at any of our depots located across the country. Contact our team today for more details.
