Meet the Team – apprentice Harry Forman

Harry Forman has been an apprentice with Glendale since January as part of the team delivering grounds maintenance services on behalf of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.  Our marketing manager spoke to Harry to find out about his experience of the apprenticeship two months in:

How old are you and where are you from?

I’m twenty-years-old and I’m from Nuneaton, so very local!

What were you doing before you joined Glendale’s apprenticeship scheme?

I finished my GCSEs and then went to college for a year to study Art and Design and English.  Then I wanted to start earning money so I went to work in the restaurant industry and I also did a stint at Halfords.

Where did you find out about Glendale’s apprenticeship scheme and what attracted you to join?

I saw the advertisement for the apprenticeship with Glendale online and I instantly clicked to apply.  I’ve been helping out my family in the garden and really enjoyed it, and I could see it being a great career opportunity.

What do you do on a daily basis as part of your apprenticeship?

The apprenticeship for me involves education and building a career with the company.  Day-to-day I carry out the tasks I’ve been set, like pruning or litter picking, to the best of my ability, and I learn what I can from my colleagues.

What are the advantages of Glendale’s apprenticeship scheme?

I think the advantages are that I get to learn on the job and gain qualifications that will help me in the future.  Everything I learn will help me progress with the company.

In what ways do you feel the scheme has developed your skill set?

So far I think that it’s helped me broaden my knowledge of plant identification and I’ve also learnt how to use the powered equipment.

What has been your most rewarding experience so far on the scheme?

My most rewarding experience so far was getting 10 Latin plant names and identifications correct, which was quite challenging!

What qualifications will you achieve with the apprenticeship?

I’m working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture and tickets to use the different machinery and equipment on the contract.

What are your career ambitions with Glendale?

I’d like to get as many tickets and qualifications as possible so that I can progress with Glendale.
