After 16-years of service, grounds maintenance operative Phil Brown announced his retirement at the end of June 2016.
Phil, from Catford, has been working in the grounds maintenance industry since he joined Glendale in 2000. Phil supports an experienced team of grounds maintenance operatives delivering hedge pruning and shrub bed maintenance services on behalf of Phoenix Community Housing Group in Lewisham.
Phil has had a full and varied career. Prior to joining the green space management organisation, he worked as a refuse collector for 23-years followed by two years as a care worker supporting local residents.
Phil comments: “I’ve enjoyed my time with Glendale, it’s always great to be working outside in the fresh air. I’ve made a lot of good friends, some who are still here and some who have moved on, and I’ve picked up a lot of skills over the years, the most important, I think, is keeping the wife happy!
“I think the highlights of my time here have been gaining and achieving new skills and assisting in maintaining Phoenix Community Housing’s high expectations.”
Angus Fraser, contract manager at Glendale Lewisham, comments: “Phil has achieved a fantastic long service with Glendale and I’m very grateful for the hard work, dedication and professionalism he’s shown throughout his time with us. He’s been a great role model to the younger employees here, always sharing his wisdom and experience with them.”
Darren Budden, general manager at Glendale Lewisham, adds: “Phil has such a strong sense of humour and a joke for every occasion, I’ll be sorry to lose such a good member of the team. On behalf of the company, and from me personally, I wish him the best of luck with his retirement.”
