Glendale joins thousands at Phoenix Festival

On Saturday 9th May, Glendale joined Phoenix Community Housing Group for their seventh annual Phoenix Festival in Forster Memorial Park, Lewisham.

The event, held every year, sees thousands of members of the local community come together to enjoy a wide array of stalls and activities from face painting and arts and crafts to rock climbing and live music.

Glendale support Phoenix Community Housing Group in organising and delivering the show every year and the grounds team worked hard in the days leading up to the event to ensure the venue was in perfect condition for the visitors.

This year, as well as running a competition to win a selection of flowers and herbs, volunteers from the company’s Surrey-based arboriculture contract hosted a tree climbing activity for the younger visitors.  The team set up their harnesses, ropes and safety equipment in a tree in order to demonstrate safe climbing techniques and let the children have a go at being an arborist.

Dale Toms, contract supervisor from Surrey Arb headed up the team, he comments: “We had a great time at the festival, we couldn’t believe the positive comments we received.  The number of participants who took part in the tree climbing was fantastic!  We are looking forward to coming back next year!”

Gemma Buttell, events coordinator at Glendale Lewisham and one of the main festival organisers, comments: “The Phoenix Festival is the perfect opportunity for the whole community to come together and enjoy a fun packed day!

“The event went extremely well for us.  We received lots of good feedback about our service in the local area through the customer survey we offered at our stall and a lot of visitors took part in the competition we were running in association with Meredith’s Nurseries.  It was fantastic to be there supporting our client and giving something back to the local community.”
