Green space service provider, Glendale, is celebrating after retaining 45 Green Flags on behalf of its clients across the country.
With Keep Britain Tidy’s latest survey revealing 75 percent of children want to spend more time exploring the great outdoors, these prestigious awards highlight some of the best, local places to visit.
The accolade is given each year to parks and green spaces that meet eight strict criteria including horticultural standards, cleanliness, safety, sustainability and community involvement.
Glendale retained its highest number of flags – 15 in total – in partnership with Lewisham Council. The partnership has maintained this standard for the last three-years.
The company retained six flags in North Somerset, four in Birmingham, two in Newcastle-under-Lyme, six in Lee Valley, seven in Waverley (Surrey) and two in Liverpool, including a heritage award.
Additional flags were awarded in South Tyneside and Surrey Heath.
Mike Brunskill, managing director for the North at Glendale, said: “We’re delighted that our clients celebrate another year of Green Flag success, showcasing these fantastic green spaces that sit right at the heart of the community. We commend the tireless efforts of all our staff and management who take pride in their work to help make this possible.
“As public open spaces continue to be under financial pressure to compete for reducing budgets, it’s encouraging to see the commitment of all stakeholders working together for the benefit of the local community. Green Flag status recognises this and helps to promote the tremendous value of green spaces for all to enjoy and appreciate.”
This year, Keep Britain Tidy, who run the scheme, awarded 1,833 parks, gardens, cemeteries, universities and canals the coveted status that is regarded as a benchmark of quality.
Glendale’s 45 Green Flags are based upon the most up-to-date information at the time of going to press.
