Green flags are continuing to fly in Glendale-maintained open spaces after the national green services company retained 31 Green Flags for its clients across the country.
Green Flag status has also been newly awarded in two more Glendale-run areas; Perry Hall Park and Sutton Coldfield Crematorium, both in Birmingham.
To win the prestigious award, the parks and green spaces were assessed against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.
Glendale retained its highest number of flags – 14 in total – in Lewisham in South East London.
It also retained flags in South Kesteven, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle under Lyme, North Somerset, Surrey Heath and Waverley.
Two of the Green Flags retained in Liverpool, for Sefton Park and Stanley Park, were Green Heritage accreditations, awarded to sites with historic importance.
Adrian Wickham, Glendale’s regional director for the South East said: “Once again our open spaces have been recognised as some of the best in the UK, which is a testament to our commitment to creating and sustaining beautiful open spaces which can be enjoyed by all.
“It’s also fantastic to see two new areas recognised for their quality and the huge amount of work which goes into keeping them in such a magnificent condition.”
The Green Flag Awards, run by Keep Britain Tidy, are regarded as a benchmark of a quality park or green space which is welcoming, clean, well-maintained, safe and secure.
It also signifies that a site is managed sustainably with particular attention paid to conservation.
Glendale’s 33 flag wins is based on the most up-to-date information at the time of going to press.
