Daniel Marshall from Glendale Horticulture has recently been named Midland Regional Growers’ Apprentice of the Year.
The award was presented by Alan Titchmarsh in the Festival Theatre at Malvern Spring Show on 11th May 2017.
Daniel comments: “Firstly, I would like to say thank you to Glendale Horticulture for giving me this fantastic opportunity. Secondly, I would like to thank my manager, Mark Lewis, for guiding me and helping me, not only with the apprenticeship course but at work as well, giving me useful information and tips along the way and helping to make me a better grower and worker at Glendale Horticulture’s Badsey Nursery.
“The Midlands Regional Growers’ Level 2 Apprenticeship proves to me that when you put 100 percent into something, anything is possible, and I can achieve anything that I want too. When I was informed that there was an Apprentice of the Year award for the Midlands Regional Growers’ Group, I made it my own personal goal to achieve this. This place is more than just a job for me now, it’s my career and I want to continue moving forward and learning more about, not only nursery work, but horticulture in general, and I feel this course and this award are the perfect platform.”
Mark Lewis, nursery manager at Badsey, added: “Daniel has put a lot of effort into getting this award and thoroughly deserves it for the work he has put into achieving it. During his time at Badsey, he has grown in confidence and developed into a very good grower. The Midlands Regional Growers’ Level 2 Apprenticeship has played a big part in his development with us, and I would recommend it to any employer in ornamental production horticulture who is looking to develop their staff and have better-trained employees.”
Twelve other students entered the awards including two further apprentices from Glendale Horticulture, Mihai Asurugitei and Adrian Livadaru.
