Green services provider Glendale has been bestowed with a prestigious award which recognises excellence in the landscaping industry.
The company has scooped a British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) National Landscape Award in the community and schools development category, for its work to create a community garden in Enfield.
BALI supports professional landscapers, garden designers and suppliers to help promote an environmentally, ethically and commercially sustainable landscape industry.
Glendale was tasked with creating the garden by Enfield Council, in order to breathe new life into a neglected urban space on Monmouth Road in Edmonton.
A team of three specialists created a new paving area, implemented new planting schemes and planted trees between November 2016 and March 2017. Ten children from a gardening club at St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School were also invited to get involved, helping to plant over 800 shrubs.
The company has been delivering grounds maintenance on behalf of Enfield Council since 2016.
A panel of industry experts led by landscape consultant Greg Allen presided over the award entries, which involved visiting each of the nominated projects around the country throughout summer.
Shereen Marlow, contract manager at Glendale, said: “We are thrilled to have won this award as we always take great pride in delivering community schemes and enhancing spaces for local people.
“Involving members of the public in rejuvenation projects is invaluable, as it reinforces a sense of community spirit by bringing people together. It’s also a brilliant way to teach young people about the importance of green spaces and their many benefits.”
Greg Allen of BALI said: “As BALI Awards judges we all see this task as a privilege, even when the heavens open and we are faced with challenging weather, as we experienced quite frequently this year.
“We are here to recognise when members have really excelled and their work represents outstanding delivery.”
Glendale will receive its award at a ceremony which will take place on December 1 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, hosted by BBC Breakfast business presenter Steph McGovern.
