A team from Glendale’s Nuneaton-based grounds maintenance contract took time out recently to support a local family in need.
The Styles family were struck by tragedy in early February when expectant father, Jamie Styles, lost his life in a road traffic collision, leaving behind his pregnant girlfriend and her two other children.
Shortly after his death, his rugby club – Manor Park RFC – embarked upon a project to help renovate a home that the young family were due to move into. Over £9,000 was raised and more than 70 volunteers were organised to renovate the property.
Glendale’s team volunteered their time to lift and re-lay 80 square metres of turf and over 100 slabs in the rear garden of the property. The turf and slabs were donated by the green space specialist.
Paul Johnson, assistant contract manager at Glendale, said: “It was an incredible project to be involved with and really illustrated the amazing things that can be achieved when a community pulls together for a common cause, particularly in light of such tragic events. It was a perfect example of community spirit, and we were delighted to be able to do our bit to help this local family when they needed it most.
“Access to good quality green space is invaluable, especially for youngsters, and Jamie’s partner was very keen to have a safe place for the children to play and I think we achieved this.”
