A team from the national green service provider, Glendale, paid special attention to Riversley Park in Nuneaton to ensure it was looking its best for a special Gurkha celebration in April.
The event, which took place on Sunday 24th April, commemorated 201 years of military action for Gurkhas in the British Army. The celebrations started beside the Gurkha memorial which was unveiled in Riversley Park a year ago.
Glendale’s team, including Mark Tipple, Ryan Bradley, Dave Rawcastle, Sean Bradley and Michael Bonell, ensured the grass was cut and the beds were well tended ready to welcome the British Gurkha Association and esteemed guest, actress and Gurkha campaigner, Joanna Lumley.
Barry Bolton, contract manager, comments: “We were proud to be able to contribute to this important event by making sure that the memorial and surrounding park were in good condition and looking pristine ready for the celebration.
“Nuneaton and Bedworth has a long-standing connection with the Gurkhas. The Queen’s Gurkha Signals Regiment is based in the local area and many ex-soldiers and their families have made the borough their home making this an event with a lot of significance for the local community.”
More than 200,000 Gurkha soldiers fought in World War I and World War II and have served in conflicts across the world, including The Falklands, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, over the past 50 years.
