National green services specialist Glendale has been awarded a combined contract to provide arboriculture services for both Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and Coventry City Council.
Glendale has delivered services in Solihull since its partnership with the council began in 1990, and now also undertakes tree maintenance across Coventry as part of the five-year contract that began in April.
Battery powered equipment including chainsaws will be used to carry out the work, supporting both councils’ aims of reducing their carbon footprints, and an emergency call out service will provide round-the-clock support.
The company will recruit four apprentices as a result of the latest contract win, with the team also working closely with Coventry’s Tree Warden Network, which raises awareness of the benefits of trees while encouraging and facilitating planting projects.
Andy Ansell, regional director for the Midlands at Glendale, said: “Our partnership with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has spanned more than 25 years and we’re pleased to be continuing the relationship and to also be working with Coventry City Council.
“More than 70 per cent of the 44 acres in Solihull is classed as green belt, so it’s incredibly important to properly maintain and keep it healthy while continuing to instil a sense of local pride.
“As always, we’re committed to providing jobs for local people so are happy to be recruiting four new apprentices to join the team. Some members have been with us since 1990 when the Solihull contract first began.
“Beyond the standard arboriculture services, this innovative contract extends to providing opportunities for communities in both regions, including offering work experience for schools and colleges, tree planting projects and generally raising awareness of the importance of tree health and looking after green spaces.”
Cllr Ken Hawkins, Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Housing and Regeneration, said: “I am delighted that our contract with Glendale has been extended and we can build on the successful partnership we’ve developed over the years. We are very proud of Solihull’s green spaces and I am confident that Glendale will continue to ensure they are well maintained and looked after for the benefit of our local communities.”
