Green flags are continuing to fly in Glendale-maintained open spaces after the national green services provider retained 44 Green Flags for its clients across the country.
To win the prestigious award, the parks and green spaces were assessed against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.
Glendale retained its highest number of flags – 15 in total – in Lewisham, in south-east London.
It retained seven in North Somerset, four in Birmingham, eight in Lee Valley, two In Liverpool including two heritage awards, and three on behalf of Waverley Borough Council in Surrey.
Additional flags were won in South Kesteven, South Shields and Newcastle under Lyme.
The Green Flag Awards, run by Keep Britain Tidy, are regarded as a benchmark of a quality park or green space which is welcoming, clean, well-maintained and safe.
Alex Paterson, operations director at Glendale, comments: “It’s great to see that the community open spaces we work in have been recognised as some of the best in the UK for another year running. This is a testament to the commitment of our teams to creating and sustaining beautiful open spaces which can be enjoyed by all, and the huge amount of work which goes into keeping these areas in such magnificent condition.
“More than 1,700 parks, gardens, cemeteries, universities and canals were awarded a Green Flag this year, which demonstrates the continued relevance of this accolade as a benchmark for our green spaces and a way of measuring the value that they bring to society. Thank you to all of our staff and management teams for their superb efforts.”
Glendale’s 44 Green Flags is based upon the most up-to-date information at the time of going to press.
