The role of the Contract Mechanic is to carry out all repairs on machinery or assets to within legal requirements and so they are in good working order and will not cause any harm to the operative using them. While working on ground maintenance works they will carry out the role of a permanent operative, completing tasks, as instructed by the Contract Supervisor/Manager to the highest of standards ensuring we meet our contractual obligations. The mechanic’s key responsibilities will be to ensure all machinery and assets are in good working order and to provide support to the operational works and Supervisor and to aid in supporting fixed term operatives, and contribute to the efficient and effective operational performance of the contract.

Main Duties
The main purpose of this role is to provide efficient and effective repairs of machinery and to provide a high standard of grounds maintenance service for the GEM Midlands team of which the main duties are listed below.
This list is not exhaustive and other works may be required as directed by the contract manager/supervisor
  • To manage and carry out and record a proactive maintenance/service and repair programme for all machinery and vehicles on site ensuring all legal requirements, health and safety compliance and company procedures are followed. Uniform and PPE will be provided and required at all times.
  • To be aware of the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and, where possible, ensure that the requirements are achieved and adhered to.
  • To uphold all health and safety policies are upheld e.g. make sure that all tools, machinery, chemicals or oils are stored safely away to prevent contamination or damage with/by other members of the team.
  • To ensure that the company reduces any environmental impacts when carrying out works e.g. fuel, water, electricity, gas wastage and correct recycling of packaging, oils and filters etc.
  • Ensure workshop security and restrict unauthorised access to work areas,
  • To ensure that machinery and tools are looked after and minimise damage.
  • Report to the Contract Manager/Supervisor both in person and through written communication i.e. completion of forms
  • To ensure that all machinery and vehicles are used for their intended purpose.
  • Assisting the Contract Manager/Supervisor in the monitoring of assets by periodically carrying out audits.
  • To assist the management team in training other members of staff on best practice and how to use machinery
  • Assisting the Contract Manager/Supervisor to carry out the requirements of the contract and to ensure that the issued work is completed within the set time schedule, to the required quality and standard of the contract specifications. Reinforcing a good working relationship between colleagues, clients and customers.
  • In absence of the Supervisor, to collect, complete any relevant paperwork, and to return within the started deadline.
  • Assist operatives with their duties and communicate with the Contract manager/Supervisor all matters relating to maintenance work.
  • Follow up on all matters relating to workforce discipline.
The Person
  • Ideally the candidate will hold the relevant machinery maintenance qualifications
  • Grounds Maintenance experience is also desirable.
  • A confident person who can display good people management.
  • Adaptable to different working techniques with a strong work ethic.
  • Ideally have a full, clean driving licence, and a trailer licence.
  • Aware of all relevant Health & Safety legislation.
  • Applicants must be reliable and conscientious and will be required to work on their own initiative.
