Deputy Head Gardener

Private Estate Surrey

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Deputy Head Gardener to help manage a team at a private estate in Surrey.  


The Opportunity

  • The position would suit senior gardeners with demonstrable staff and garden management experience and excellent attention to detail.
  • The expansive gardens encompass extensive woodland, shrubs, mixed beds and borders, manicured lawns, ponds, car parks, mixed hedges, as well as numerous paths and hardstanding.
  • The successful applicant will be able to assist to provide supervision and guidance to a small team and will report to the Head Gardener to support with the planning and management of the gardens and the gardener’s team.
  • You will work towards a shared goal of implementing a sustainable plant maintenance programme that guarantees year-round quality and consistency on a regular basis in relation to seasonal plans and overall improvement of the gardens. 

 

The Person

  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience and confidence in the management of planning and scheduling, health and safety, and associated record keeping.
  • Applicants should hold a recognised academic horticultural qualification as well as spraying  (PA1/6). 
  • Experience with a full range of garden machinery is required, i.e. hedge cutters, ride-on and pedestrian mowers, blowers etc
  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate effective management in terms of staff development and performance. 
  • A basic level of computer literacy is required in order to ensure the above records and processes are managed efficiently.
