GLENDALE ACQUIRES LEADING COMPOSTING SPECIALIST

GLENDALE has significantly strengthened its green waste recycling proposition with the acquisition of a leading specialist in the field of composting.

Ecological Sciences Ltd, an award-winning innovator in processing and recycling organic waste, is set to become an integral part of Glendale’s portfolio of green services available to local authorities and organisations throughout the UK.

Known as EcoSci, the 10-year-old company offers environmentally friendly and cost-effective recycling and composting solutions.

Located at the University of Exeter, where it has its own laboratories for research and quality control, it has become a centre of excellence for composting, earning accreditations and awards.

The company is widely known in the West Country where it has contracts with local authorities for green waste recycling, composting in excess of 40,000 tonnes of green waste a year.

It produces its own branded high quality compost called West Country Compost and Paignton Zoo Poo for a range of customers including professional growers, farms, landscapers, golf courses, gardens including the Eden Project and domestic gardeners.

Glendale aims to harness the company’s technical and scientific capabilities to complement its grounds management contracts with local authorities throughout the UK.

Nick Temple-Heald, Glendale’s Managing Director, explained: “The acquisition of EcoSci has been a very strategic purchase.

“Green waste recycling is a natural extension of our work as a market leading supplier of grounds management services.

“Glendale combined with EcoSci’s capabilities will undoubtedly have a strong presence in the marketplace as local authorities come under increasing pressure to meet strict recycling targets set by the Government.”

Steve Bullock, General Manager of EcoSci said: “Our acquisition by Glendale is a tremendous opportunity for EcoSci and will allow our expertise to reach local authorities on a national level.

“We have been operating for 10 years now and have built up a solid reputation that is product driven, and based on scientific and technical research."

EcoSci has established research partnership with a number of organisations including the Department of Trade and Industry, the Environment Agency, agricultural colleges and further afield, a specialist project in Hungary.

In 2004 it won the Jim Balance Compost Marketing Award from the Compost Association and has also gained PAS 100 accreditation against its most popular grades.

Its Principal Scientist, Edward Heeley has recently been awarded a Certificate of Technical Competence for Composting.
