GLENDALE WORKS MAGIC AT GREENBANK

GREEN specialist Glendale has put the finishing touches to a local community project in Liverpool thanks to their work with leading parks charity GreenSpace.

A new picnic area has been created at Greenbank Park in the city after the Friends of Greenbank Park won Glendale’s prize draw to support a local community project.

The oak leaf shaped picnic area complete with two picnic tables lies close to the Marie Curie Garden where another picnic bench has also been installed. This autumn Glendale plans to plant dwarf daffodil bulbs in the Marie Curie Garden.

The Friends of Greenbank Park were the lucky winners of Glendale’s prize draw after they attended a Parks Networking Evening at Sefton Park Palm House in June.

The event attracted more than 100 people and was organised by GreenSpace in partnership with Glendale and Liverpool City Council shortly after the Parks for People Conference at the Merseyside Maritime Museum.

Glendale has been providing green services for Liverpool City Council for the last seven years and has been actively involved with a number of local community groups.

The Friends of Greenbank Park, which was formed in March 2005 and now has 25 members, asked Glendale to create a space where families could relax and keep an eye on their children in the playground. The four-day project was completed just a few days ago at a cost of £5,000.

Peter Cosgrove, Glendale’s Contract Manager for Liverpool, said they were delighted with the new picnic area at Greenbank Park.

“We have worked very closely with the Friends of Greenbank and the council to provide the local community with a useful amenity that is a real asset to the park.

“It’s great to see groups like the Friends of Greenbank Park working with the local authority and the local community to increase the profile and usage of their open spaces both now and in the future.”

Andrew Austin, of Friends of Greenbank Park, said: “Our thanks go to Glendale for their help and support to turn this project into a reality. I am sure the new picnic area will be very popular with everyone who uses the park.”
